Durham NH not just a University town
Durham has many recreation areas for all ages. As a seacoast waterfront community the town offers many areas of boating, swimming, and fishing in both the Oyster River and Great Bay. There are also many public recreation areas for hiking, picnicking and biking. In the winter these nature and wildlife areas become cross country ski and snowshoe trails. Mill Pond and Jackson's Landing become places for iceskating and icefishing.Alongside the many nature and waterfront areas are formal recreational facilities. Durham has its own Ice Rink with many hours available to the public for free skate along with its Youth Hockey programs. Public tennis courts are at Woodridge Park and the Oyster River High School. Playgrounds are behind the ice rink and also at Woodridge Park.
Durham is part of the Oyster River School System which includes the neighboring towns of Lee and Madbury. The High School and Junior High are located close to downtown Durham and the elementary schools are in Lee and Madbury. The school system is one of the top reasons families choose Durham. It is a town that is is conveniently located with easy access to both Maine and Massachusetts. It is only 10 miles to the Interstate 95 and a few miles from the Spaulding Turnpike.
